the tuesday list

grow.

1. Kale chips. Yum. (Actually I’ve just been on a kale kick in general lately.)

2. I have been forgetful lately and less productive then I need to be due to lack of sleep. I need to make for the lack of productivity tomorrow though. Really.

3. Journaling. I want to do it more again. I used to all the time, and looking back at things I wrote makes me smile.

4. I have been feeling so quiet and introspective these last few days. Today especially. Sometimes I get this way- I need to go off alone, and curl up somewhere and just think, write, read, observe… rest. Respecting this need keeps me balanced and happier, and I daresay much more pleasant to be with : )

5. My sister and I watched Eclipse in the theater on Sunday. Love it. We also watched The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants while she was here. I love me a good girly flick once in a while.

6. I wrote down these two excerpts from Rumi a few years ago and just came across them again. I think they are beautiful, and I am baffled by the thought that just a few short years ago, I had time to just sit and read Rumi for my own enjoyment and enlightenment.

Dance, when you’re broken open.

Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off.

Dance in the middle of the fighting.

Dance in your blood.

Dance, when you’re perfectly free.

~Rumi

~~~~~~
The way of love is not
a subtle argument.
The door there
is devastation.
Birds make great sky-circles
of their freedom.
How do they do it?
They fall, and falling,
they’re given wings.
~Rumi
7. Enjoying this summer mix from Christine at My Topography.
8. Dreaming of trips I want to take, someday. Portland, Colorado, Maine, Thailand, Africa, France, Spain… the list is practically infinite, but I have so much fun dreaming and planning it all.
the tuesday list
by Hannah
I haven’t forgotten about it, though it’s been a few weeks since I posted one of these…
1. Rain. It’s getting to be a bit much. Seriously.
2. I am flirting with eating vegan again for a while. I started reading The Kind Diet (by Alicia Silverstone) this week- it is basically a vegan diet with elements of macrobiotics and no processed foods. I think I will do a month of it as sort of a detox, and then decide where to go from there. I have not been feeling very well lately and feel I need to cleanse my system. Even after a few days of no meat, very little dairy and sugar, and lots of whole cooked grains, beans and fresh vegetables, I feel a lot better.
3. We met some friends for library storytime this morning, and Seth was so in his element- dancing and clapping and playing the shaker eggs. It is so cool to watch him branch out all on his own, he is really becoming his own amazing little person.
4. We’re part of a group yard sale this coming Saturday, and I really need to get on the ball with sorting and pricing my stuff. We have accumulated quite a bit in the almost three years we’ve been married.
5. I am looking forward to seeing Eclipse with my little sister this weekend.
6. I really wish my Polaroid sx-70 wasn’t broken and likely irreparable. It makes me sad.
7. I want a beach day. Rain, rain, go away…
8. I have so many ideas for my business lately, and really looking forward to getting busier with it. Still, even with very few clients there is always something to do.
9. I need to learn how to bake yummy desserts with no dairy and no white sugar. I am going to try some from The Kind Diet book soon. I have learned in the past that though I can live without refined sugar, I really must have sweet things in my life on a regular basis.
10. I am thinking about a few new regular installments on this blog. “Everyday Etsy” would have beautiful handmade things that are also useful in everyday life, and “Inspiration” would have photography, writing, videos, art, design and anything else that has been inspiring me lately. Probably both on a weekly basis. I am constantly inspired by things I see online, and would love to start sharing more of that here.
Happy Tuesday!
Oh, and here is a picture I snapped the other day, purely for it’s heart-melting qualities…
The Tuesday List, no.2
by Hannah
1. Trolley ride and fountain play with friends this morning.
2. I have re-discovered that I very much dislike food from KFC and will hopefully never again eat their food.
3. Seth is still teething. oh. so. much.
4. We’re having Manny’s grandma and brother over for dinner.
5. I’m making chili and corn on the cob. I haven’t made corn on the cob in ages.
6. I need to make yoga a regular part of my day.
7. Stress is unhealthy. (hence the yoga)
8. I’ve been eating too much junk lately.
9. I’m going on a sugar fast, at least for several days, to make myself stop craving it all the time.
10. When I am well taken care of, I am a better mother and wife.
The Tuesday List
by Hannah
So many blogs I read have theme days. Often they are really clever and I enjoy them. There’s Wordless Wednesday, Five Senses Friday and so on. In the last five minutes I have decided that here on Seeking Equipoise, Tuesdays will now be accompanied by a list of some sort. I think this stems from the facts that a.) I couldn’t figure out what to put for a title on this post, b.) My thinking this morning is sort of random and disconnected, and c.) I just like lists : )
So without further ado… today’s list will have no particular theme. Enjoy!
1. I never thought of myself as the gardening type, but I suddenly had a desire to grow some of our own food, and now I love my garden! So does Seth:
2. Business has been a bit slow, and I really can’t wait to have more jobs. I am finding that it’s not just about the money, I just really want new people to shoot. A newborn would be especially fun. Or a sweet little girl- I haven’t done a girl session in so long!
3. If you were to come over to my house right now I would be embarrassed to let you. It’s a mess. It gets that way so much faster now that I have a mobile child.
4. Part of the reason for number 3 is that we have too much stuff. I am going to be purging our home of clutter this week and simplifying a bit. Simplicity has been a theme in my life lately.
5. I frequently have the desire to just pack up the family and go live a different adventure- overseas, or RVing across the country, or even just living somewhere else. I’ve always had that wonderlust, my entire life. But I have to remind myself that this is an adventure too, if I allow it to be. This is where we belong, and we’re not going anywhere. I just have to maximize the “exciting” factor in our daily lives right here. Totally possible.
6. Speaking of adventures, I have less than a week left with my “normal hair” and I am nervous and excited. The waiting has given me some time to evaluate my motives, and I feel that I am getting dreads for the right reasons, and I am confident that I will love them. I do wonder, though, if people will treat me differently because of them. Should be interesting. I have also had a chance to notice that you rarely see people with them around here.
7. At the library last week, I randomly grabbed a kids CD off the shelf- Alphabutt by Kimya Dawson. It’s so irreverent and funny- I had no idea, I just thought her name sounded slightly familiar. One of the songs has this line that I keep playing back in my head…
“Write and write and keep on writing, just make sure you life’s exciting.”
Heck yes. I love it. I need to write more.
8. I haven’t read a novel in so long. I miss it.
9. We need to get outside today. hmm, maybe the zoo…
10. Life is beautiful.
